Hardware Implementation of the SHA-3 Candidate Skein
نویسنده
چکیده
Skein is a submission to the NIST SHA-3 hash function competition which has been optimized towards implementation in modern 64-bit processor architectures. This paper investigates the performance characteristics of a high-speed hardware implementation of Skein with a 0.18 μm standard-cell library and on different modern FPGAs. The results allow a first comparison of the hardware performance figures of full Skein with other SHA-3 candidates.

A Skein-512 Hardware Implementation
This paper describes our Skein-512 hardware implementation. Skein is a semi-finalist in the NIST hash competition to create SHA-3, with Skein-512 being the primary submission. We compare our implementation of Skein-512 with other published hardware implementations of Skein, and with similar implementations for SHA-1 and SHA-2. We discuss four variations of our critical path to explore the throu...
متن کاملHardware Implementation of the Compression Function for Selected SHA-3 Candidates
Hardware implementation of the main building block (compression function) for five different SHA-3 candidates is presented. The five candidates, namely Blue Midnight Wish, Luffa, Skein, Shabal, and Blake have been considered since they present faster software implementation results compared to the rest of the SHA-3 proposals. The compression functions realized in hardware create the message dig...
متن کاملSilicon Implementation of SHA-3 Final Round Candidates: BLAKE, Grøstl, JH, Keccak and Skein
Hardware implementation quality is an important factor in selecting the NIST SHA-3 competition finalists. However, a comprehensive methodology to benchmark five final round SHA-3 candidates in ASIC is challenging. Many factors need to be considered, including application scenarios, target technologies and optimization goals. This work describes detailed steps in the silicon implementation of a ...

متن کاملCompact Hardware Implementations of the SHA-3 Candidates ARIRANG, BLAKE, Gröstl, and Skein
The weakening of the widely used SHA-1 hash function has also cast doubts on the strength of the related algorithms of the SHA-2 family. The US NIST has therefore initiated the SHA-3 competition in order to select a modern hash function algorithm as a “backup” for SHA-2. This algorithm should be efficiently implementable both in software and hardware under different constraints. In this paper, ...
